Circular construction is becoming the norm – and we can help you get started

In this article:

Circular construction is no longer something for the future – it is the smart choice now. From reusing materials to modular construction: discover how we can help you with a comfortable, sustainable and future-proof home

We notice it more and more often in our conversations with customers: circular construction is no longer a nice ambition, it is increasingly becoming a concrete wish. This development does not come out of the blue. The construction sector is in full swing. Raw materials are becoming scarcer, energy costs are increasingly weighing on the monthly budget and legislation is changing rapidly. As a result, we see that not only large construction companies or innovative architects are getting started with this, but also private homeowners, housing associations and contractors from the region. The realization is growing: the way we build must and can be smarter. Circular construction is therefore no longer an exception, but the new starting point.

What exactly do we mean by circular construction?

At its core, circular construction is about extending the lifespan of materials. So not building to demolish again in thirty years, but building with a view to reuse and adaptability.

For us, this means in concrete terms: we choose materials that can be recovered, such as wood, flax or recycled insulation material. We design installations that are easy to disconnect, so that parts can be replaced without breaking everything open. And we think ahead – to how a home or building could adapt to the needs of the user in years to come.

How our customers experience it

What we often hear from customers who opt for a circular approach is that they are surprised by the comfort and appearance of their home. The image that circular construction is by definition ‘alternative’ or ‘impractical’ has proven to be outdated in practice. With the right choices, it is actually an incredibly comfortable and modern way of living, without compromising on quality or style.

What we have learned

Since 2009, we have been supporting home sustainability across the board. And since 2014, we have increasingly done so with circular solutions as a starting point. Over the years, we have learned a lot about what works – and what doesn’t.

What does it yield? A home that is future-proof, has lower maintenance costs and contributes to a healthier living environment. These are not empty promises: they are concrete benefits that we see time and again in our projects.

Our experience shows that circular construction offers the following advantages:

  • Lower total cost of ownership : You save in the long term, because materials can be reused and maintenance is easier.
  • More comfort and health : Circular homes are often combined with good ventilation, natural materials and smart installations.
  • Better sales value of your home : More and more buyers attach value to sustainability, low energy costs and low-maintenance construction.
  • Contribution to climate goals : Your home is ready for the future – and actively contributes to the energy transition.

How we apply circular construction in practice

At De Duurzaamste Bouwer we work with an integral approach. That means: we look further than just solar panels or insulation. Our approach starts with the foundation – literally and figuratively.

We ask the following questions:
✔ Can we reuse existing materials?
✔ How do we design in such a way that future adjustments are easy?
✔ Which installations are modular and replaceable?
✔ Are the products used biobased or recyclable?

Practical example :
A customer from North Holland wanted to make his 1930s home more sustainable, but thought it was a waste to strip everything. We then opted for demountable insulation panels on the inside of the facade, combined with a heat pump and home battery. Not only is his home now energy-efficient, but if he wants to renovate in the future, we can reuse or move the materials.

Circular construction and complete care?

Creating a circular home doesn’t have to be complicated. At De Duurzaamste Bouwer we take care of everything. From the first energy scan and choosing the right materials to applying for subsidies and arranging financing. And all of this is arranged in such a way that your monthly payments are often lower than before.

We believe: sustainability should be smart, simple and hassle-free. And circular construction is part of that.
